Bringing the little ones on holiday? Here are a few tips for your trip to Cape Town.

It’s not uncommon for parents to take advantage of free air travel for under 2’s and book a long haul fight, with Cape Town high on the agenda. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty to do for children of all ages and teenagers alike.
Near enough every activity and experience in Cape Town and throughout South Africa also caters for kids of all ages too. The beauty of Cape Town is how many of the top attractions are natural and also animal related, something that has long kept restless children occupied!
Beyond wildlife and natural beauty, Cape Town is also renowned for its wide range of diverse adventure activities, which will be sure to keep the whole family busy!
In Cape Town itself, you’re spoilt for choice when planning your family day out.
- Table Mountain- if the best view in Cape Town isn’t enough to keep the kids entertained then perhaps abseiling from Africas most famous landmark will be!
- Signal Hill and Lions Head- with the option to take flight from either of Table Mountains supporting cast, paragliding over Cape Town is a sure fire way to keep the children out of mischief
- Cape Town Aquarium- an underrated day out, particularly for the younger generation as you get up close and personal with South Africas marine life. Not only fun, but also educational and immersive for all ages.
- Kayaking- with options from Sea Point and Hout Bay and the opportunity to sea a variety of aquatic creatures, kayaking is a great way to spend a morning for kids.
- Paddle Boarding- or supping; as the locals call it, is brilliant for all ages and abilities, whether you want to sit down or stand up and meander around the lazy waters of the V&A
- Boulders Beach- everybody loves penguins right?! Getting to see them in their natural beach habitat is quite something too.
- Seal Island- a boat trip that not only provides stunning scenery and a unique view of Chapmans Peak, but also the chance to see thousands of seals basking in the sun and wallowing around.
- Surfing- whether it’s their first time or fiftieth time, there are beaches a plenty for surf rental and to hit the waves.
- Biking/scootering- It sounds simple, but giving the kids some freedom to bomb along the promenade on bicycles or even electric scooters is a great way to keep them busy and let off some steam.
- Beaches- tried, tested and Cape Town has an abundance of options when it comes to sand castles and swimming!
- Padel/tennis- padel has taken the world by storm and it has arrive in Cape Town in a big way too! Great for it’s inclusivity of all ages and abilities, it’s a great family activity that involves everyone.
- Cinema/arcade/ice skating/bowling- at Century City there are options a plenty for kids to run around, all in the name of fun. With all of your typical entertainment sources to be found in one spot.
- Nanny/babysitting options- if a night for just mum and dad is needed then Cape Town has a wonderful and extensive list of certified and trusted nanny and babysitting options available. Where it’s not particularly the done thing to see live in nannies in Western Europe, it is very much a common practise in South Africa- which means there are some great options for a day solely for mum and dad.
